If you are working on / released a game and want feedback on your sound design, I'm looking for you!

TL;DR Send or link me a build of your game (finished or in-dev) and I'll review all aspects of the audio!

As my day job, I'm a sound designer for video games. I've been doing this on AAA games for about 5 years now with recent credits in Helldivers 2, Lego Star Wars, [Title under NDA] 3, and a handful of smaller games. I've been looking for ways to contribute to Newgrounds' game audio scene but usually don't have time to get involved with the entire game audio pipeline for a game next to day job and personal side projects... But what I CAN do is provide feedback and tips for you to implement yourself!

What will I do?

I will play through your game and give notes on all aspects of the game's audio: assets, implementation, music, mix... Both the good and the less good. I will then send you a message back with the things I've found and the ways I would go about improving them and why. I'm doing this type of stuff weekly at work when reviewing sound design from other people, or from games in general. Sometimes there's not a lot that needs changing, sometimes there are major aspects of audio that are missing or lacking that just need an extra pair of ears to point it out.

What you need to do

Either respond to this post or send me a DM with 1) a link or download to your most recent build so I can play it 2) a short explanation of the game and any areas, in particular, you want feedback on (mix, assets, music, etc). Doesn't need to be long or super detailed, but if it will help me help you better!

Then what?

I'll then play your game, write down my thoughts on the sound design and any possible solutions to aspects that need work and send that back to you! You're then free to do with that feedback whatever you want!

Looking forward to anything coming my way!

Vocaloid Pop-Punk/Chiptune album released

Last year, I composed and released 9 different Vocaloid tracks. Some of these were even for the Newgrounds Audio Death Match, which was very fun to be a part of! A couple of weeks ago I finally released these tracks as 1 whole collection as the album "Video Store"!

Releasing all the singles on Newgrounds has done a lot for me. The feedback was always very valuable, and seeing the plays some of these tracks got was super motivating! Don't know if I would have released that many tracks last year if it wasn't for newgrounds tbh...

So the album is out now! It's on every streaming service, and I would love it if you gave it a listen! It's all Vocaloid originals with a mix of pop-punk and some chiptune.

Gonna slow down with music releases for a bit as I wrap up some side-projects, and then I want to get back into making new music! Setting deadlines of one month for myself helped a lot with the amount of releases, but gotta be honest... I could do better in quality of the songs!!! Goal for this year: focus on quality over quantity :')

THANKS!!!

HEY! At the beginning of this year I posted about the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater chiptune cover album we are organizing, and so far 21 artists have joined!!! It's already shaping up to be a huge album, the biggest one we have done so far under the Kickblips Crew name... but we have room for MORE!!!

If you're a musician and make anything chiptune related, send me a DM about joining! Anyone is welcome!

Related to this, we're also making a game! For previous albums, we've also made small games, and for this one, we're looking for an artist who can help us out! It's a rhythm game with THPS combos as inputs, where you control a skateboarder doing freestyle tricks to songs from the cover album. We've already got core functionality working, and have created a tool in Unity that converts midi files into note charts!!! Very hype about it myself, but we need art... The art scope is comparable to FNF: splash screen with logo, menu for selecting songs, animated character on a background with some UI during gameplay and then a results screen back to menu select. We have some budget, if you're an artist send me a DM so we can discuss details!

Gonna leave you with the tracklist so far! iu_1162584_4852520.png

As a side project, I co-organize the Kickblips collab albums, which are Chiptune cover albums centered around a certain theme!

In the past we did covers of Anime stuff, Sitcom intros, Spongebob songs, and songs from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater... and this year we're doing another THPS cover album!!!

Quick rundown of the project so you can decide if you want to join!

  • Cover a song from any THPS or Tony Hawk spinoff game as a chiptune song
  • ANY interpretation and level of chiptune is welcome, from hardware accurate NES covers to having a couple of Magical8BitPlugin arps on your orchestral rendition of Superman
  • Deadline is on June 30th. After that I'll start mastering the tracks to get them ready for release
  • You retain all the rights and revenue to your song. Songs will be published through a yet-to-be-chosen distributor on streaming and all other places.

If you want to see what our projects look like, have a look on our website here to see if it interest you!

If you want to join (or just want to check stuff out), hop in our discord server here!

At the end of last year, I made a post about wanting to release a track per month... and I ALMOST achieved that!

I released 9 tracks this year, and to my surprise, they all made it to the front page! Newgrounds has quickly become my favorite place to see new art and to get fantastic feedback on my own art! The interactions I have with people here is unlike any other site!

So with 9 tracks finished this year, I'm gearing up for an album release early next year! I've got 2 more tracks I want to create and save for the album release while I wait for the album art from Maarten Boot, the artist I've worked with this year for all my cover art. Check out some of my personal favs of his at the bottom of this post!

Besides Maarten, I want to give a huge shoutout to @wirdhere, who's animation featuring my music was one of the coolest things I've got to be part of this year! https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/905427

So I'll have a little break in posts for a month or 3 while I work on the album release, but I hope you'll check out my new stuff next year!

I released my recent track "For The Love Of Tax!" on Spotify 2 days ago. I initially made it for the NGADM group stage and it got an 8.89 average there, but unfortunately, the competition in my group was too good and I didn't make it to the next round! Despite that, I'm very happy with the track! You can check out the Spotify track here:

But also, Tobokegao translated the lyrics to Japanese and did a vocal cover of the track! Really wild to hear my own music in another language. You can check that one out here:

To wrap it up, this year has been really great so far! The feedback I've received on Newgrounds, and the art and music I see and hear here are insanely inspiring! Really hope to give back more to the community in some way, but just want to say thanks for now!

Surprisingly few uploads this year despite making a good amount of music... I'm working on the soundtrack for Kemono Friends Opening Day https://twitter.com/KFOpeningDay, which will hopefully release its first part early next year. Besides that, I'm aiming to release music more frequently next year! Goal is 1 track a month. At the very least I'll have more than 1 track to upload like I did this year and if it all goes right I'll have a full album's worth of music by the end of the year :O

Hope you all have a good 2023! Looking forward to whatever happens 😎

Thank you everyone who listened to my latest collab track! Seeing how awesome the Newgrounds community is, I wish I had started uploading more stuff here sooner! I've got plans to re-record some tracks I did for a couple of compilation albums I was a part of in the last year and upload them as a double single, after I finished another single track.

Again, thanks a bunch for the support! If you feel like you can miss it, consider buying the track on bandcamp this Friday! Or simply give it a play there :)

THANKS!
